STEPHEN APPEL
President, Sales and Marketing

Stephen P. Appel is President of Sales and Marketing for ION Media Networks, owner of the largest U.S. broadcast television station group, overseeing revenue for all of the Company’s advertising divisions, including ION Television, ION Life, and Qubo.

Appel is a member of the ION Media Networks Executive Team, reporting to CEO and Chairman, Brandon Burgess. He was the key architect in the development of the company’s program consulting agreement with NBC Studios and NBC Entertainment for the 2004-2005 season.

An industry veteran, Appel is responsible for creating long term strategic value for partners and customers, as well as innovative added value programs. In addition to handling network sales, local and national long-form sales for the company’s 60 owned and operated television stations, Appel supervises all network traffic operations as well as the digital media sales division. He is responsible for direct response sales and negotiates all network sales/traffic operational contracts such as Nielsen, MRI, OSI, EDI and DealMaker. Additionally, he oversees content partnerships for long-form time periods. He manages a team with offices in New York City, Chicago, West Palm Beach and Los Angeles.

Prior to joining the company as Senior Vice President, National Sales in March 1999, Appel was Vice President/Director of Sales for Seltel Television Sales in New York. In that role, he managed the advertising sales revenues for 19 sales offices, and helped increase Seltel's revenues exponentially over his tenure. His earlier positions at Seltel include New York Team Manager and Account Executive. From 1985 to 1991, Appel worked for the ABC Radio Group and its owned and operated WABC 77 AM in New York, as the Director of Sales. He worked up the ranks from the position of account executive. During his tenure with WABC, he managed and coordinated advertising sales for clients including the New York Yankees, CFL Football, NBA Game of the Week and the New Jersey Devils.

Earlier in his career, Appel held sales positions with Blair, Eastman and Nationwide Cablerep, and started his career as an account executive at Worldvision Syndicated Television Sales.
